Reduces ad hominem attacks? Edit

An anon editor just added this to the list of benefits: "Reduces the likelihood and effectiveness of ad hominem attacks". Is this true? While you don't know who it is you're attacking and thus can't be specific in your ad hominem attack, you can still say "Anon commenter at #42, you're an idiot!", and having greater anonymity will mean that people feel safer making those sorts of attacks. --Skud 01:07, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
