Open core business models are difficult from community perspective. The underlying problems are that
- The company needs to create proprietary add-ons (or and "Enterprise Edition") to generate revenue streams
- The company wants to protect it's intellectual property from competitors by using a copyleft license
These two factors necessitate the use of contributor license agreements, which in turn significantly reduces the amount of community contributions. This caused by the added [[Barriers to entry|barriers to entry, as well conflicts of interest.
