A non-profit organization is one which does not try to make money for its owners or shareholders, but instead directs any profits it makes into the activities of the organization.
Non-profit organizations generally enjoy certain tax benefits. For instance, donations to non-profit organizations are often tax free. Non-profits generally have to register as such to enjoy these benefits.
Non-profits may raise money through Membership dues, Donations, Grants, or a variety of other means. See Fundraising for more information.
