Discussion is a broad term for one of the major activities that occurs in communities. Discussion can occur online or offline, though the term is most often used to refer to online discussion.
Kinds of online discussion include:
- Forums
- Mailing lists
- Usenet
- Comments on Blogs and the like
Although each community's discussions will have their own Community norms and the like, there are some commonalities that are seen in many discussions, eg:
- Off-topic
- Signal-to-noise ratio
- Me too
- Warnock's Dilemma
The Community manager for a discussion-focussed community is often called a Moderator.
