A benevolent dictatorship is a form of community Governance where the leader or Founder makes decisions on behalf of the community.

  • Ubuntu has a Self-Appointed Benevolent Dictator for Life, but also has aspects of Meritocracy in its governance
  • Perl community

Advantages[]

  • Low overhead, as it doesn't require elections, votes, etc.

Disadvantages[]

  • The BD may make decisions that are unpopular with a large number of community members
  • BD may suffer burnout or lose interest, which may cause the community to fail
